There aren’t many people on earth who would be able to decide to marry someone after spending just eight hours with that person. Most people would balk at the idea of any sort of commitment after knowing someone for such a short time. Nevertheless, that is precisely what is expected of employers and candidates: to spend two to four hours in telephone and face-to-face interviews, to perhaps go out for a drink with the team and then agree to a long-term commitment to spend most of their waking hours working together.
